The SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is a video game collection created by Digital Eclipse. It includes arcade and console games made available by SNK from 1979 to 1990. The collection was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. Later, in 2019, it was released for PlayStation 4 on March 19, Xbox One on May 3, and Steam on July 7.
Games included
The collection had 14 games when it first launched for the original Nintendo Switch. On December 11, 2018, 11 additional games were added as free downloads, bringing the total to 25 games. Later versions of the collection included all games from the beginning. The Xbox One version includes one extra game, making the total 26 games.
Original arcade versions of the games are included for all titles, except for three games that were never released in arcades: Baseball Stars, Crystalis, and Iron Tank. These three games use the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) versions instead. Some arcade games also include their NES versions in the collection.
Note: Available as free DLC on Nintendo Switch. Note: Exclusive to the Xbox One version.
Copyright information about Nintendo on the title screens of the console games is still shown on all platforms.
Reception
An Electronic Gaming Monthly reviewer stated that it was "one of the most amazing collections of old games I have seen in a long time." GameRevolution noted that "a lot of care and effort went into every part of it." Jeuxvideo.com expressed less enthusiasm, stating that "the good emulation, interface, and features cannot make up for the missing many important SNK games."
