History

The first Eurogamer Expo was held at the Old Truman Brewery as part of the London Games Festival 2008 and had 4,000 visitors. In 2009, the event took place at The Royal Armouries in Leeds and the Old Billingsgate Market in London at the end of October. From 2010 to 2014, the show was held at London's Earls Court. After the venue closed, EGX moved to Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre as part of a long-term agreement.

In 2012, Eurogamer and Rock Paper Shotgun created Rezzed, a new event focused on PC and indie games, which was first held at the Brighton Centre on 6–7 July 2012. In September 2012, Eurogamer announced that Eurogamer Expo would also include a Rezzed section.

In October 2013, Eurogamer Expo was renamed EGX London, and Rezzed became EGX Rezzed. The EGX London name was stopped in 2014, and after moving to Birmingham, the event was called simply EGX.

On 21 February 2018, a third event in Berlin, Germany, was announced. On 28 November 2018, it was announced that EGX 2019 would return to London's ExCel.

On 13 March 2020, EGX Rezzed 2020 was originally planned for 26–28 March 2020 but was postponed to 2–4 July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was later cancelled. On 30 June 2020, EGX 2020, originally scheduled for 17–20 September 2020, was also cancelled. That day, EGX announced it would partner with PAX to hold a 9-day online event from 12–20 September 2020. The event was named PAX Online X EGX Digital.

On 19 February 2021, it was announced that EGX Rezzed and EGX would return as live events if it was safe to do so based on vaccination progress and government guidelines.

On 11 October 2021, EGX Rezzed was renamed EGX Birmingham and would return to the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. The renamed event aimed to expand the "Rezzed Zone" and include AAA studios showcasing new games. Originally planned for 4–6 March 2022, it was postponed to 2023 due to the effects of the Omicron variant.

EGX London 2023 took place at ExCel London from 12–15 October, with TikTok as the headline partner. The event featured two esports tournaments: one for Tekken 7 and one for Street Fighter 6.
