History

In March 2019, Sony launched the State of Play format to connect with PlayStation fans. This method used live streams sent directly to customers, much like Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct presentations, which show new games. This change meant Sony no longer focused on big events like E3. Instead, they used their own exclusive digital format to share information about upcoming games.

Format

State of Play broadcasts can be different in how long they are and what they include. They usually share news about new games, videos showing how to play games, updates about games that were already announced before, and sometimes news about new gaming equipment. These broadcasts can be watched on video sharing and live-streaming websites like YouTube and Twitch. Sony sometimes has a special event called PlayStation Showcase, where they share news about new games made by their own PlayStation Studios. In recent years, Sony has also started sharing these announcements during regular State of Play broadcasts.

List of events

In addition to the State of Play video programs, other digital PlayStation events that do not use the "State of Play" name are also listed. The games shown are listed in the same order as they appeared during each event.
