Christopher Gonzalez, also known as NYChrisG, is an American professional gamer who focuses on fighting games. He is recognized as one of the top players in the game Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. He won the Evo 2016 championship for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Career
Gonzalez was first sponsored by the Local Battles Gaming Center in Fort Lee, New Jersey. He gained recognition at CEO 2011, where he earned third place in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, finishing behind Justin Wong and Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi. At EVO 2011, Gonzalez defeated Noah Solis using a team of Amaterasu, Ryu, and Albert Wesker. He also placed in the Top 8 of Mortal Kombat, achieving fourth place with Reptile. Gonzalez was eliminated by Eric "JOP" Akins and Giuseppe "REO" Grosso. He later participated in an East Coast vs. West Coast Marvel vs. Capcom 3 exhibition, where his team lost.
In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Gonzalez used a team of Morrigan, Doctor Doom, and Akuma. In March 2012, he left Local Battles and joined FingerCramp. At EVO 2012, Gonzalez reached the Top 8, defeating Justin Wong, Job "Flocker" Figueroa, and Peter "Combofiend" Rosas. He finished third after losing to Ryan "Filipino Champ" Ramirez. Gonzalez later replaced Akuma with Vergil on his main team. In October 2012, he left FingerCramp and joined AfterGlow Elite.
At CEO 2013, Gonzalez won tournaments for Injustice: Gods Among Us and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. He placed in the Top 8 of both games at Evolution 2013. In Injustice: Gods Among Us, he earned third place using Green Arrow but lost twice to Denzell "Crazy DJT 88" Terry and once to Justin Wong in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, finishing tied for fifth. Gonzalez qualified for the Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition v2012 tournament and the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament at Capcom Cup. He defeated Michael "IFC Yipes" Mendoza in the Grand Finals to win the trophy. He later defeated EVO 2013 champion Job "Flocker" Figueroa in an exhibition match. Gonzalez placed seventh in Street Fighter, losing to Naoto "Sakonoko" Sako and being eliminated by Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi.
After AfterGlow Elite disbanded, Gonzalez moved from New York City to Los Angeles, California. He was sponsored by GamesterGear for Final Round XVII and later became a permanent team member. Gonzalez plans to continue using Sakura in Ultra Street Fighter IV, with Yang, Evil Ryu, and Elena as alternates. At CEO 2014, he won the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament but lost in Injustice: Gods Among Us to ForeverKing and DEG. He earned second place in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at EVO 2014, losing to Justin Wong, and finished 13th in Injustice: Gods Among Us. In late October 2014, Gonzalez left GamesterGear. After a three-month absence, he returned to NEC 15, placing Top 8 in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat (2011), and Ultra Street Fighter IV. He also won first place in the Curleh Mustache Battle Royale 4 tournament.
On March 10, Gonzalez joined Tempo Storm as their first player in the Fighting Games division. On April 2, he appeared on Cross Counter's show "The Excellent Adventures of Gootecks and Mike Ross" for four episodes. In June 2015, Justin Wong offered a $300 reward for eliminating himself, Gonzalez, and Ryan "Filipino Champ" Ramirez in the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament at EVO 2015. Gonzalez earned $300 for defeating Justin Wong but was eliminated by Ryota "RF" Fukumoto in a mirror match.
On March 2, 2016, Gonzalez left Tempo Storm after his contract expired. At EVO 2016, he won the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament from the Loser's Bracket, showcasing his team's synergy with MorriDoom and anchor Vergil.
Gonzalez later played Street Fighter V, focusing on Guile. Before Guile's release, he played Cammy and Nash.
