Early and personal life

Maximilian Miles Christiansen was born on September 23, 1983, to Diane Christiansen, an acting coach from Illinois. He was raised in Los Angeles, California. Christiansen has Dutch roots from his father's side. Before becoming a YouTuber, he worked as an animator and illustrator. Christiansen is married. His wife, Jessica, gave birth to their daughter, Ripley, named after the character played by Sigourney Weaver in the movie Alien, in 2020. His younger sister, Tess Lauren Christiansen (born in 1989), is an actress who appeared in the slasher film Most Likely to Die. In October 2021, Christiansen's financial information on Twitch was revealed after a large data leak.

Internet career

Christiansen started his Maximilian Dood YouTube channel in 2007. After losing his job as an online video game producer in 2011, he began making videos full-time. His content focuses on fighting games, including series like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and Soulcalibur. He later moved his streaming to Twitch, using YouTube for video replays, until his contract ended in 2024. His first video, from 2013, showed him playing Killer Instinct against Justin Wong in the original season. As of 2024, his YouTube channel has over 1.7 million subscribers, and his Twitch channel has over 1.3 million followers. Christiansen also runs a second channel, "YoVideogames," where he plays multiplayer games with friends Matthew "Matt" Simmons, Kenny O'Brien, and Steve "Steeb" Springer.

Christiansen’s videos mix informative guides and reaction-based gameplay. He created the web series Assist Me! for Capcom’s Marvel vs. Capcom 3, explaining game mechanics, characters, and strategies with comedic skits. In Mortal Kombat videos, he demonstrated fatalities and included humorous "hidden character" intros. Some of these videos were demonetized and restricted for certain age groups in 2019 after the release of Mortal Kombat 11. In 2017, a video about Injustice 2 highlighted improvements to character models, noting flaws in faces like Supergirl and Wonder Woman. Christiansen also made videos about other games, such as a Bayonetta 2 Easter egg referencing Star Fox, which was covered by Eurogamer in 2014. He has created many videos about Final Fantasy VII and its related titles.

After Machinima closed in 2019, Christiansen was removed from the multi-channel network because his Assist Me and Boss Rage videos faced copyright claims for using music. As a respected member of the fighting game community (FGC), Christiansen organizes online tournaments and campaigns for the revival of fighting games. In August 2021, he started a social media campaign to re-release Marvel vs. Capcom 2, which had been removed from stores due to licensing issues. The campaign made #FREEMVC2 trend on Twitter, leading to its re-release in 2024 as part of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. In 2019, he also campaigned for the revival of Killer Instinct, which trended on Twitter.

In January 2021, Christiansen hosted a Killer Instinct tournament on Twitch through a partnership with Twitch Rivals, reaching over 41,000 viewers. He had previously worked with developer Iron Galaxy to create promotional material for the game’s reboot. On May 24, 2021, he hosted a Mortal Kombat X Lives tournament, but it was paused after a data leak incident involving players’ personal information. Christiansen and Twitch Rivals planned to hold the event again later. He also directed Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite & Beyond, a mod that adds new features and a cel-shaded art style to Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, addressing criticism about the game’s graphics.
