The Legend of Zelda is a video game series created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. Nintendo mainly develops and publishes the games. The first game in the series, The Legend of Zelda, was released in 1986. Most games in the series are made for Nintendo consoles and handheld devices, from the Family Computer Disk System to the Nintendo Switch 2. Some related games, called spin-offs, have been released on other systems. As of June 2025, the main series includes 33 games: 21 original titles, 11 remakes or updated versions, and a collection called The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition. Over 52 million copies of the games have been sold since the first game was released in 1986. The series also includes an American cartoon, comic books, and music from the games.

The games mix action, adventure, puzzles, and role-playing elements. Most main series games follow Link, the hero, who tries to save the world from Ganon, the main enemy. Princess Zelda, who is a rebirth of the Goddess Hylia, helps Link. Games with 2D graphics use side-scrolling or top-down views, while games with 3D graphics show the player’s character from the side or a fixed top-down angle. The series has won several Guinness World Records, including being the first game with a battery-powered save system and the longest-running action-adventure series.
