Fire Emblem is a series of strategy role-playing video games created by Intelligent Systems and released by Nintendo. The first game in the series was released in Japan in 1990. It is known for starting and making popular its type of game. As of 2023, seventeen main games and remakes have been released. Since the seventh game in the series, Nintendo has translated and adapted all but four titles for Western audiences: Mystery of the Emblem, Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776, and The Binding Blade. Traditionally, the series was challenging for players, as units can be permanently lost in battle. However, the series has become more accessible to casual players with an optional mode for easier play, beginning with New Mystery of the Emblem in 2010.
