History

Grezzo was founded by Koichi Ishii in December 2006, and Ishii became the company's CEO. The company's first original game was the Japanese exclusive Line Attack Heroes, which was released as a WiiWare title in 2010. Shortly after, Satoru Iwata of Nintendo asked Grezzo to create a game for the Nintendo 3DS, which was still being developed. From this partnership, Grezzo began working on games in The Legend of Zelda series. In 2011, it was announced that Grezzo would develop The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. That same year, the company also released a DSiWare version of Four Swords that allowed players to play the game alone. In 2015, Grezzo worked on Majora's Mask 3D and Tri Force Heroes.

During this time, Grezzo also created several role-playing games (RPGs) in partnership with Cattle Call, including The Legend of Legacy and The Alliance Alive. At E3 2016, the company announced Ever Oasis, a new original game directed by Ishii. The game was published by Nintendo and released for the 3DS in 2017. In 2018, Grezzo collaborated with Nintendo again to port Luigi's Mansion to the 3DS. In 2019, the company released a remake of Link's Awakening for the Nintendo Switch.

In September 2024, it was announced that Grezzo was the developer of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. After the release of Link's Awakening, Nintendo asked Grezzo to create an original game in the series. This new game was first planned as a dungeon editor but later shifted to focus on copy abilities, which became the main feature of Echoes of Wisdom.
