Luna uses the Windows Server operating system and Nvidia Tesla T4 graphics cards from Amazon Web Services to stream games. It is available in the United States, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Luna's competitors include other cloud gaming platforms such as Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation Plus cloud streaming, and GeForce Now.

History

Amazon Luna began with a limited release on October 20, 2020, allowing only invited subscribers to access the service early. During this early stage, Luna offered about 100 games and had a starting price of $5.99 per month. Subscribers could play new games from Ubisoft and Epic Games on the day they came out through their own channels. The Ubisoft+ channel required an extra $14.99 monthly fee. Epic Games titles, like Fortnite, were free to play, but users needed to buy a copy of the game first.

On October 1, 2025, Amazon changed the name of its Prime Gaming service (formerly called Twitch Prime) to Amazon Luna.

In April 2026, Amazon announced major changes to the platform. These included removing games that users had previously purchased and ending third-party subscriptions. Users had until June 10, 2026, to access games they bought before April 10, 2026. After that date, the games would no longer be available, and users would not receive refunds.

Features

Luna offers a library of more than 100 games that become available when you purchase a subscription.

Luna works with keyboard and mouse, the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, and the DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers.

The Luna Controller is an optional accessory that costs $59.99. It includes two analog sticks, a D-pad, two sets of shoulder buttons, four main buttons (A, B, X, Y), three additional buttons (Action, Menu, Microphone), and a home button with the Luna symbol. The controller is black in color and has a built-in microphone that works with Amazon Alexa. It can connect to devices using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or a USB-C cable.

USB connections are supported on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and Chromebook devices. Older iOS devices cannot use USB OTG and must connect to game controllers through Bluetooth instead.

Reception

In March 2021, a CNN article reviewed Amazon Luna and noted that the service had a lower cost than Stadia and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. It also highlighted the service’s easy-to-use design but mentioned problems with slow performance at times and a limited selection of games. A review from Screen Rant criticized how the service was organized, stating that people seeking all features might pay more than for other similar services. The review also said the service lacked a clear purpose and audience, making it difficult to recommend. However, it suggested that Amazon Luna could be a useful option for people who prefer using subscription-based services instead of owning a console.

Availability

As of March 2025, Luna is now available to subscribers in 14 countries around the world, as shown in the table below. Guests without a subscription can join Luna Couch sessions hosted by subscribers to play local co-op games.
