Justin McGrath, also known as Plup, is an American professional Super Smash Bros. player from Orlando, Florida. He is recognized as one of the top Super Smash Bros. Melee players in the world, having been ranked among the top 10 Melee players every year since 2015.
McGrath became famous in 2015 after achieving high finishing positions in major tournaments. His best results include winning first place at GENESIS 5, finishing second at The Big House 7 and Smash Summit 9, and placing third at EVO 2016 and EVO 2018. He was once the best player in the world for the character Samus but later focused on playing Sheik. In addition to Samus and Sheik, McGrath also plays Fox as a secondary character. He has competed professionally in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, mainly using Mega Man and Ridley, and in Project M, primarily using Samus. McGrath was previously sponsored by Panda Global. A 2021 list from PGstats ranked him as the tenth-greatest Melee player of all time.
Career
McGrath started his Super Smash Bros. career in 2010. He joined the CEO 2010 tournament as a Samus player and placed 13th out of 62 competitors. In 2014, he placed 13th out of more than 600 players at Apex 2014. In 2016, McGrath placed third at CEO 2016 Prologue, CEO 2016, and EVO 2016. After placing in the top 10 at Shine 2016 and Summit 3, he was ranked as the sixth-best player of the season. In 2017, McGrath won his first major tournament at DreamHack Atlanta 2017 after defeating Hungrybox in the finals. He also placed second at Big House 7. In 2019, he placed second at Smash Summit 9.
