- Muscle contraction, also called twitching, is the movement of muscles. Convulsion is a fast and repeated tightening and loosening of muscles. Fasciculation is a small, local, and uncontrollable muscle twitch. A myoclonic twitch is a sudden jerk caused by quick muscle movements. Myokymia is a continuous, uncontrollable muscle twitch that affects facial muscles. A spasm is a sudden, uncontrollable muscle tightening. A tic is an uncontrollable, repeated, and irregular movement. A tremor is an uncontrollable, repeated, and somewhat regular movement.
