The film features Kevin James, Alan Ritchson, Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, Benjamin Pajak, Banks Pierce, Hiro Kanagawa, Stephen Root, and Isla Fisher in key roles. The story follows Brian (played by James), a recently unemployed accountant and father, who arranges a playdate with Jeff (played by Ritchson), a stay-at-home dad. Brian and Jeff, along with their sons, become targets of hired fighters after Jeff reveals that he and his "son" are fleeing from the military and law enforcement. The movie was released on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2025, and became the most-watched film in the United States during that week.

Plot

Recently, Brian Jennings, a forensic accountant who lost his job, has difficulty adjusting to being a stay-at-home dad for his stepson, Lucas. Lucas faces challenges at school because he acts in ways that are not typical for boys and does not enjoy sports. While Brian’s wife, Emily, returns to her job at a law firm, Brian tries to help Lucas make friends by arranging a playdate with Jeff Eamon, a new neighbor who is very athletic and a stay-at-home dad, and his son, CJ, who is extremely strong but has trouble expressing emotions.

The playdate, which begins at an indoor playground called Buckee Cheese, quickly becomes dangerous when a group of armed attackers appears. The group escapes in a stolen minivan during a car chase and fights at the playground. Jeff explains that he was once a soldier in a military unit called Delta Force but was dishonored after rescuing CJ, who was locked in a secret facility. Jeff believed CJ was a child in need of help. Jeff’s estranged father, Gordon, refuses to help them, showing that Jeff feels abandoned by others.

After questioning a worker at the facility, the group learns that CJ is a clone of Jeff, created by a wealthy scientist named Simon Maddox and a former military leader, Colonel Kurtz. Kurtz saw Jeff as an ideal soldier but was upset when Jeff refused to kill an innocent child during a mission. Scientists used Jeff’s DNA to create emotionless soldiers who would not experience trauma or hesitation, aiming to change how wars are fought.

When Maddox’s followers threaten Emily’s life, Brian, feeling guilty, betrays the group by tricking Jeff into a trap, allowing CJ to be captured. Later, Brian helps save Jeff. Using a GPS signal from Lucas’s phone, which was hidden in CJ’s jacket, the group enters another facility filled with other clones of CJ. During a battle, Maddox orders CJ to kill Jeff, but CJ refuses and instead kills Maddox, showing he has developed feelings for his new family.

In the final battle, Brian crashes a car to distract enemies, helping Jeff defeat Colonel Kurtz. Jeff uses explosives he had hidden to destroy the clones and the main operation. After the explosion, Brian, Jeff, CJ, and Lucas leave the facility together. Lucas tells Brian he is the best dad. In a scene hinting at a future story, Jeff and CJ visit Brian’s home late at night, revealing their house was destroyed by new enemies, suggesting Maddox and Kurtz’s cloning project continues globally.
