Beaterator is a music mixing game released in September 2009 for the PlayStation Portable and in December 2009 for iOS devices. It was created by Rockstar Leeds in partnership with Timbaland. The game is based on a music mixing tool made with Adobe Flash, which was shared online in 2005 by Rockstar. Timbaland created new loops and sounds specifically for Beaterator. Players can make their own loops. The game includes three modes: Live Play, Studio Session, and Song Crafter. It also has a feature that allows players to share their music with others through Rockstar Games Social Club.

To celebrate the game’s release, Rockstar Games held an event in PlayStation Home at the Listen@Home station in North America’s Central Plaza on October 16, 2009. During the event, attendees could play music tracks created by other users. On June 10, 2014, the GameSpy service was shut down, which caused Beaterator’s Social Club features to stop working.

Reception

The PSP version of Beaterator received mostly good reviews, while the iOS version had reviews that were a mix of positive and negative, as reported by Metacritic, a website that collects reviews. Reviewers from the Australian video game show Good Game, Jeremy Ray and Steven O'Donnell, gave the game scores of 6 out of 10 and 7 out of 10, respectively.
