EGX (previously called Eurogamer Expo) is an event for video games. It is organized by ReedPop (and earlier by Gamer Network). The event takes place every year in the United Kingdom.
History
The first Eurogamer Expo was held at the Old Truman Brewery as part of the London Games Festival in 2008. It had 4,000 visitors. In 2009, the event took place at The Royal Armouries in Leeds and the Old Billingsgate Market in London at the end of October. From 2010 to 2014, the show was held at London's Earls Court. After the venue closed, EGX moved to Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre as part of a long-term agreement.
In 2012, Eurogamer and Rock Paper Shotgun created Rezzed, a new event focused on PC and indie games. Rezzed was first held at the Brighton Centre on July 6–7, 2012. In September 2012, Eurogamer announced that Eurogamer Expo would also include a Rezzed section.
In October 2013, Eurogamer Expo was renamed EGX London, and Rezzed became EGX Rezzed. The EGX London name was no longer used in 2014. After moving to Birmingham's NEC, the event was simply called EGX.
On February 21, 2018, a third event in Berlin, Germany, was announced. On November 28, 2018, it was announced that EGX 2019 would return to London's ExCel venue.
On March 13, 2020, EGX Rezzed 2020 was originally scheduled for March 26–28, 2020, but was postponed to July 2–4, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was later canceled. On June 30, 2020, EGX 2020, originally planned for September 17–20, 2020, was also canceled. That same day, EGX announced a 9-day online event with PAX, called PAX Online X EGX Digital, scheduled for September 12–20, 2020.
On February 19, 2021, it was announced that EGX Rezzed and EGX would return as in-person events if conditions were safe based on vaccination progress and government guidelines.
On October 11, 2021, EGX Rezzed was renamed EGX Birmingham and would return to Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre. The renamed event aimed to expand the "Rezzed Zone" and include AAA studio showcases. Originally planned for March 4–6, 2022, it was postponed to 2023 due to the effects of the Omicron variant.
EGX London 2023 was held at ExCel London from October 12–15, 2023, with TikTok as the main partner. The event featured two esports tournaments: one for Tekken 7 and one for Street Fighter 6.
