Ku Bon-chan (Korean pronunciation: [ku.bon.tɕʰan] or [ku] [pon.tɕʰan]; born January 31, 1993) is a South Korean recurve archer. He won one gold medal in individual competition and one in team competition at the 2016 Olympics. He also won two gold medals in team competitions at the 2015 World Championships.
Career
He made his first appearance at the 2014 Archery World Cup after taking part in many Asian competitions before that. Ku took part in the individual recurve event, team recurve event, and recurve mixed team event at the 2015 World Archery Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. He won gold medals in the team recurve event and recurve mixed team event.
At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Ku competed for South Korea in the men's team archery event and men's individual archery event. He and the South Korean team won the gold medal in the team event. Ku shot six perfect tens one after another across three sets during the gold medal match against the United States. This victory was the first time a South Korean archery team had beaten a U.S. archery team at the Olympics. In the men's individual event, Ku defeated French archer Jean-Charles Valladont in the final to win his second Olympic gold medal.
