"A Little to the Left" is a 2022 puzzle video game created by a small Canadian company called Max Inferno and released by a company named Secret Mode. The game was first made for the GMTK Game Jam but was later turned into a complete game. "A Little to the Left" got good reviews from experts.
Gameplay
At each level, the player uses drag-and-drop actions to organize a messy space. Some puzzles allow for more than one correct solution. When a puzzle is completed, stars appear to show progress. If a puzzle has multiple correct answers, the stars are only partially filled.
Development
The game was created for the GMTK Game Jam 2020. During the game jam, players had 48 hours to make a game based on the theme "Out of Control." After the event, developers Annie Macmillan and Lukas Steinman started a company called Max Inferno in 2021. They planned to launch the game by October 2021.
Macmillan said she and Steinman worked on A Little to the Left as a separate project. They were contacted by a publisher named Secret Mode, which helped develop the game's early version.
Release
The game was released for Windows and macOS on November 8, 2022, and for Nintendo Switch on November 9. Max Inferno originally planned to release A Little to the Left in December, but because the game was finished earlier than planned, it was released at the same time as both platform versions. Within one year of its release, the game had sold one million copies. After Alice O'Connor of Rock Paper Shotgun noted that one puzzle had a confusing solution, Max Inferno added the "Let it Be" feature to let players skip levels. "Cupboards and Drawers," a downloadable content expansion for the original game, was released on June 27, 2023. The DLC focuses on organizing homes.
Reception
On Metacritic, the game "A Little to the Left" has a "mostly positive" rating for its PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X ports. On OpenCritic, the game has a score of 69%.
