Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy video game series created by Relic Entertainment. The games take place during World War II.

Games

The first game in the series was released on September 12, 2006, in North America, and September 29, 2006, in Europe. It was made available for iOS and released for iPad on February 13, 2020.

The first separate expansion pack for Company of Heroes was released on September 25, 2007, in the United States, and September 28, 2007, in Europe.

The second separate expansion pack for Company of Heroes was released on April 9, 2009.

Company of Heroes Online was a free online game where many players could play together in real time. It was developed by Relic Entertainment and published by THQ. The open beta for the game began on September 2, 2010, and the game was stopped on March 31, 2011. This game was not connected to the original Company of Heroes multiplayer system and was a separate game, unlike its earlier versions. It used the same graphics engine as the original Company of Heroes retail release. Relic also created a Chinese version and a South Korean version of the game. The Chinese version was made with the help of Shanda, while the South Korean version was created entirely by Relic Entertainment and published by WindySoft. The Korean and American versions included the full single-player story from the original game, but the Chinese version did not.

Company of Heroes Online was a real-time strategy game based on Company of Heroes. The game focused on using different levels of cover and terrain that could be destroyed. It also used a system called "sector supply," where a player’s resources depended on the areas they controlled. A special feature of the game was the many combinations of hero units, special abilities, and doctrinal abilities players could use, allowing for creative strategies.

A sequel, Company of Heroes 2, was released on June 25, 2013, in North America and Europe. The game added the USSR’s Red Army as a new faction and included stages from the Eastern Front campaign, such as Operation Barbarossa and the Battle of Berlin. It used the Essence 3.0 engine, which included effects like weather and environmental details, as well as systems that mimicked unit visibility and weather conditions like snow, mud, and blizzards.

Company of Heroes 3 was announced by Relic and Sega in July 2021. The game is set in World War II, focusing on Italy and parts of the North African Campaign. It was released on February 23, 2023.
