Fire Emblem is a series of strategy-based role-playing video games created by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. The first game in the series was released in Japan in 1990 and is known for starting and making popular its genre. As of 2023, seventeen main games and remakes have been released. Since the seventh game in the series, Nintendo has made all but four Fire Emblem titles available in Western languages: Mystery of the Emblem, Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776, and The Binding Blade. Originally designed for experienced players, with characters that can be permanently lost in battle, the series began offering features for new players in 2010 with the release of New Mystery of the Emblem.
